Here are bits and pieces of hotel industry news to share without a full article of details. These are some of the stories that caught my eye lately.
Hilton Curio Collection hits 50
The Porter Portland, Oregon opens as the 50th Curio Collection property in the brand Hilton launched in 2014 to incorporate formerly independent hotels under its loyalty umbrella. The hotel is in the Fountain District of the city.
Home2 Suites by Hilton Las Vegas Strip South opened as the first hotel for this brand in Las Vegas. The property has 120 suites. I was kind of surprised to read there were 70 Home2 Suites openings in 2017. I finally spotted my first Home2 Suites in January in Florida City on way back to Miami from Everglades National Park.
Choice Privileges has 35 million members with 5 million new members in 2017. ‘Badda Book Badda Boom’ must have some traction.
Prizeotel is a budget hotel brand acquired by Radisson Hotels Group. Currently there are only a handful of hotels in northern Germany in Bremen, Hamburg and Hannover. Six more hotels in Germany and Vienna are scheduled to open over the next five years.
Radisson Hotel Group has plans for rapid expansion in India over the next few years and industry reports indicate this may be a market for new growth of Prizeotel. There are currently about 90 hotels open in India under Radisson brands with another 50 in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, Marriott International opened its 100th hotel in India with Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel & Convention Centre. Both Marriott and Radisson each state they plan to operate 200 hotels in India in the next 5 years.
Westdrift Manhattan Beach, California is a new 393-room category 7 Marriott Rewards Autograph Collection hotel on 26 acres with a 9-hole golf course south of LAX. The hotel is 2.4 miles from Manhattan Beach and Pier.
Paragraph Resort & Spa, Shekvetili, Georgia, the country, is home to another new Autograph Collection Black Sea Resort property. This resort receives high guest ratings and enters Marriott Rewards at category 5.
