Marriott Irvine Spectrum open and Downtown Disney plans new hotel

a building with a pool and parking lot

Marriott Irvine Spectrum is the first new build full-service hotel in the chain to open in Orange County in the past decade. The 271 room property, including 50 suites, held its grand opening reception this week on March 27, following its soft opening last month.

Hive & Honey is the rooftop bar of the 15-story hotel.

Heirloom Farmhouse Kitchen is the hotel’s full-service restaurant.

There is a two-story spa and 24-hour fitness center and an outdoor pool.

Marriott Irvine Spectrum enters Marriott Rewards as category 6 at 30,000 points per night.

This hotel looks like a good reward value for weeknights when rates run over $300 per night. Weekend rates I checked were far more reasonable at around $180.

Goodbye Rainforest Cafe and ESPN Zone, Hello New Downtown Disney Hotel

All businesses west of the Lego store and Disneyland Drive in Downtown Disney Anaheim will close by 30 June. The area is being demolished and a new 17-acre hotel project will launch in July 2017.

Plans call for a new 700-room hotel with direct Disney monorail access from the hotel to Disneyland. Completion date estimated for 2021.

The new Marriott Irvine Spectrum does not allow self-parking. Even though I travel to Irvine weekly, I am passing on this new hotel.
