Recent fare deals in the $400s return to SFO for Rome and Paris flights after a few days of Star Alliance low fares from California regional airports being the main deal. San Francisco fares to Rome and Paris went up to $600s over the past three days when they dropped to $400s from California regional airports across the state.
One new fare development today is American Airlines and British Airways have joined Star Alliance with a discount fare SFO to Rome as low as $430 round trip for travel in March to early June, although airfares are closer to $500 round trip in April.
American Airlines San Francisco SFO – Charlotte CLT – Rome FCO – Helsinki HEL – San Francisco SFO
$436.21 round trip Thu May 10 – Tue May 22
Delta Airlines/Air France SFO to Paris $473 round trip
San Francisco SFO – Paris CDG (AF nonstop) – Detroit DTW – San Francisco SFO
$473.30 round trip March 13 – March 20, 2018
These kinds of ticket prices to Rome and Paris were available from many California regional airports during the past three days before the fare sale ended yesterday. I considered tickets Monterey to Amsterdam $362 or Venice $426, but I did not like the long layover times of 6 to 12 hours in transit airports for travel from Monterey.
Even though I did not find a ticket to buy for Europe, the low fares motivated me to check out hotel deals in Venice, Rome and Paris.
Best Western Premier Hotel Venice Sant’Elena at 24,000 points looked like a budget traveler deal for getting a place on the islands. Paris has some good deals with Choice Privileges points for 12,000 points per night at several city hotels.
I’m still looking for the ticket sale that turn me into a buyer for a spring 2018 trip to Europe.
