Several airlines have LAX, SJC and OAK to Honolulu at $169 to $175 each way for travel over the next few months. Honolulu is a cheap starting point for flights to Sydney, Australia on JetStar Airlines as low as $437 round trip. These low fare tickets provide an opportunity to visit both Hawaii and Australia for less than $800 round trip with nested tickets.

JetStar is a low cost airline I flew in 2016 for intra-New Zealand cheap flights.
Honolulu – Sydney is their only USA route.
The deal here is for light packing travelers who can manage with only 7kg/15lb carry-on bag allowance. A 20kg checked bag bundle fare including self-select seat assignment is an additional $99 each way.

This itinerary option caught my eye as I have a certificate for a 4-night stay in 2018 at Surfer’s Paradise Marriott Resort I won in an auction a few months ago.
Personally, I can probably pack 7kg light for a trip to Hawaii and an Australian beach resort. Round trip flights between Sydney and Gold Coast OOL airport are as low as $78. But not during the dates I show for the flights above. March and May have low fares for Sydney to Gold Coast, but April has higher fares. I see April is the major school holiday break in Australia.
