Xiamen is a port city across the strait from Taiwan. CNN posted a Sep 2017 article on Xiamen describing the city as “China’s Capital of Coolâ€.
The cheapest flights tend to force an overnight in Xiamen one or both directions. The good news is these are close to 24 hour transit layovers for a full hotel night and time to sightsee.
