On my walk across Monaco I ended up at Le Meridien Beach Plaza with a desire to refill my water bottle after starting the day at Riviera Marriott La Porte de Monaco in Cap d’Ail, France across the street from the western border of Monaco. Le Meridien Beach Plaza is about 200 meters from the eastern border of Monaco.
A walk across Monaco, Cap d’Ail France to Roquebrune Cap Martin, France and back (Oct 16, 2017).
Once inside the lobby and after taking a look at the beach outside, I went back inside and bought an €11 beer at the bar. Cold draft beer in a glass, I found a suitable seat outside with a view of the beach.
Le Meridien Beach Plaza and Riviera Marriott have the distinction of being the only major chain hotels actually by the beach in the immediate area. Monaco is a developed waterfront with only one beach area at the eastern edge of the country. Le Meridien has a fenced off private section of Monaco’s beach.
In late afternoon few people remained at the beach and only a couple of people were using the outdoor pools as the sun dipped behind the mountains shading much of the beach.
There were still a few sunbathers in pool deck lounge chairs.
After beer, I checked out the beach up close for a dip in the sea. Remember, I am a tourism promotion professional making my living writing about hotels (wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more). Your vacation experience might differ if you party crash a hotel’s private beach in a foreign country.
The rocky beach had a steep slope and it was hard to walk at the water’s edge due to my feet sinking deeply. The water felt great compared to the Pacific Ocean temperature I am accustomed to in Monterey, California.

The key card becomes a work of art in its own right. Designed by LM100 Creative Community of contemporary artists including Michael Lin, Hishaam Bharoocha, Sam Samore and Yan Lei, the key cards form a curated collection of key of artworks that will expand with time. Each key card series is available for a limited timeframe before being replaced by the work of a new artist.
A wall near the check in desk shows a series of key cards designed by artists. Le Meridien encourages key card collectors.
Key Ccrds as art had special significance to me after having the receptionist at Intercontinental Warsaw the week before demand I turn over my key card at check out. She refused to let me keep it, even after I told her I maintain a key card collection from hotels around the world.
