Radisson Blu Alcron Hotel Prague is an art deco style hotel in a central location of the city in Nove Mesto, about 200 meters from Mustek Metro station on the A line. This is the same Metro line Prague Airport bus 119 drops off passengers at Nadrazi Velesalvin station for an easy 6-stop ride into Prague center with no need to change metro lines. Radisson Blu Alcron is a convenient location right in the heart of Prague for touring the city. I like the location better than Old Town and Mala Strana hotels where dining and drinking tend to be geared more for tourist crowds with comparably higher prices.
The hotel was built in 1932 and restored with period Art Deco elements in the 1990s following the Soviet-era of the city. I felt like an extra in an Agatha Christie’s Poirot episode as I wandered through the hotel. The property has been managed by Radisson for two decades.
Club Carlson Free Friday
My Friday night stay was booked using a Club Carlson Free Friday from the recently ended promotion for one free Friday e-certificate at any Club Carlson property earned after two Club Carlson brand hotel stays July 1-Sep 30, 2017.

There was confusion at check-in when I was asked for my Free Night certificate. There was a back and forth for a few minutes with phone calls to a manager about whether I needed to provide a paper certificate for my stay. I stood by my position that the entire promotion was an online production with an e-certificate redemption. After a period of uncertainty as to whether my reservation would be honored without having to fire up my laptop and search through my Club Carlson emails, the staff member finally said everything was okay and apologized for the confusion.
As a customer service gesture for the check-in delay he added a complimentary breakfast to my reservation. That was certainly a welcome bonus I appreciated with my free night.
Room 201 Junior Suite
I tend to receive upgrades more often than not in Central Europe hotels as a Club Carlson Gold member. I had been told about the junior suite before the Free Friday certificate issue arose at check-in.

My photos are arranged in counter clockwise direction around the room. The main room had hardwood floor and marble tile bathroom decor.
The second floor room location was not an issue for street noise.
The room has high ceilings for added spaciousness.
The bathroom had both shower stall and bathtub with a separate door for the toilet.
I particularly enjoyed the bathroom cabinet light design.
A scale in the bathroom kept me aware of the fact that my caloric burn rate from miles of walking around Prague stayed evenly balanced with my caloric intake of beer pints.

And a hair dryer in the bathroom in plain sight. Too bad my wife was not there for that convenience. One of her primary challenges in many European hotels is finding the hair dryer.
The only issue I had with the room was trying to turn on the TV later in the evening. The remote did nothing. I called and was amazed when an engineer was at my door in 2 minutes. He fiddled around with some electronics in the cabinet, so it was not simply dead batteries. TV was working in another two minutes.
Even more impressive was a knock on the door a few minutes after the engineer left my room. I was handed a gift bag with a complimentary bottle of Alcron house wine.
Not many hotels impress me with customer service, but I was impressed by the Radisson Blu Alcron.
Radisson Blu Alcron Hotel Spaces
Hotel walls on guest floors are adorned with art deco pictures and the corridors display several sculptures.
The marble staircase was a feature I used frequently to access the lobby from my second floor room location rather than the elevator.
There is a plaque at the base of the stairs:
“The Alcron staircase is one of the examples of early functionalism in Prague. It was a showpiece of the hotel’s architect Mr. Alois Krofta when the Alcron opened in 1932. The staircase with the brass rail and carrara marble were perfectly restored in 1990.â€

Be Bop Lobby Bar
The Alcron Be Bop Bar was well populated on a Friday night. I snapped photos of the space early Saturday before there were any patrons.

I never saw the dining room interior. I felt underdressed for breakfast in La Rotunde, where I observed I was the only man in the room not wearing a collared dress shirt.

The buffet was standard fare with a chef making cooked to order omelets. I enjoyed receiving my own pot of coffee on the table and a full bottle of water.
In better weather there is an outdoor patio space.
