Romania Hilton and Wyndham 19 hotels mapped with reward rates

Romania is a country I want to visit, possibly in 2018. Besides being a country with a fascinating history of settlement by Germans in the Middle Ages, invasions by Tatars and ruled by Ottoman Empire until 1877, the country has wilderness and natural spaces. The cost of tourism is among the lowest in Europe with cheap hotels, dining and shopping.

There are 10 Ramada Hotels and 9 Hilton brand hotels in Romania. These two chains provide geographic coverage in many cities across Romania.

Click on the icon in upper right of Google Map to view hotel names with reward price as of September 14, 2017. Hilton Honors reward rates are variable for most hotels, yet there are a couple of hotels with 5,000 and 10,000 points rates.

Cheap Airfare too.

Low cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz are another traveler benefit for access to airports spread across the country geographically. Air travel is a time saver for non-Europeans without weeks of time to travel since Romania is a sizable country.

Romania is 92,000 square miles, about 75% the size of Poland or 56% the size of California. Romania is larger in size than the combined land mass of its neighbors, Hungary 36,000 sq.mi. to northwest and Bulgaria 43,000 sq.mi. on its southern border. Serbia on the western border is 34,000 sq. mi. Moldova to the northeast and the Black Sea to the east are Romania’s other borders.

Ryanair flies to

  • Bucharest OTP,
  • Craiova CRA,
  • Oradea OMR and
  • Timisoara TSR.

Wizzair is the largest operating airline for intra-European flights on 120 routes from 18 countries to 10 airports in Romania.

  • Bucharest OTP
  • Cluj-Napoca CLJ
  • Constanta CND
  • Craiova CRA
  • Iasi IAS
  • Satu Mare SUJ
  • Sibiu SBZ
  • Suceava SCV

  • Tirgu Mores TGM

Many of the direct routes to Romania have ticket prices under $40 one way.

There are a lot of other chain hotels there at a good value. I don’t know why I would restrict myself to Ramada unless…….I had Wyndham points to burn and can’t figure out how else to get value out of them.
Romania is very nice but it’s changed a lot in the past 10 years. When Romania entered the EU in about 2007 it totally changed this place from a soviet iron curtain survival economy to western ways. I think that has been good for the people there by far however it’s just different than it used to be.
Also winter sports and dracula are big tourist draws there as well. It’s a beautiful place.

Wyndham Rewards frequently opens up several higher categories of rooms for points stays, including suites. When I first checked Ramada Hotels in Romania a couple years back there were suites available for points stays at most Ramada hotels. Last year that option was cut back quite a bit, but still some upgraded rooms available on GoFast points + cash rates at some hotels.
