The current 50% off sale to Oct 5 for Hilton Honors points had me examining category 1 hotels in Europe. The price of a category 1 reward night at 5,000 points means $25 hotel nights. That drops to only $20 per night for Honors elite members paying $100 for 20,000 points for a 5th night free reward stay.
While a category 1 hotel is a great deal in theory, are there any properties worth staying for 5 nights? For me, the answer is yes.
I stayed four nights at Hilton Honors Category 1 Hampton Inn Krakow, Poland last June. That is a hotel where I would consider a 5-night stay. It is a 20 minute tram ride to Old Town and a large Carrefour supermarket is located across the parking lot in a shopping mall for groceries and beer. Complimentary breakfast included.
Hilton Honors Category 1 hotels in Europe are found at 24 locations in Belarus, Poland, Romania, Russia and Turkey.
A couple of other hotels on the Honors category 1 list are places I would consider a suitable hotel option, particularly if I ever pick up a cheap flight to Minsk, Belarus or if I make it to Rzeszow, Poland for a bus trip to Lviv, Ukraine.
Doubletree Sighisoara, Romania is a hotel I truly am eyeing for a trip in 2018.
$25 for a reward night for any of these hotels will be a discount rate compared to the typical $60 to $100 per night lowest published room rate.
Although, Turkey has some incredibly low priced hotels, like category 1 Hilton Garden Inn Erzincan is $28 USD after tax for a King bed room on October 4. Might as well earn Hilton Honors points at that rate.
