Choice Privileges Buy Points up to 30% off July 13-Aug 17, 2017

Choice Privileges are a valuable hotel currency for me with my frequent flights through Scandinavian countries. There is currently an offer to buy discounted points for up to 30% off the $11.00 regular purchase price when you buy 40,000 to 50,000 points. The price drops to $7.70 per 1,000 points.

  • 1,000 – 4,000 points = No offer ($11.00/1,000 points).
  • 5,000 – 14,000 points = 10% discount ($9.90/1,000 points).
  • 15,000 – 29,000 points = 15% discount ($9.35/1,000 points).
  • 30,000 – 39,000 points = 25% discount ($8.25/1,000 points).
  • 40,000 – 50,000 points = 30% discount ($7.70/1,000 points).

Choice Privileges members can buy a maximum 50,000 points per calendar year.

The real deal here is buying 40,000 to 50,000 points at 30% off.

  • 40,000 points = $308 (regular price $440).
  • 50,000 points = $385 (regular price $550).

Choice Points sale Jul13-Aug17

What makes this deal even better than usual is the fact that Choice Privileges Points Plus Cash rewards have been out of commission on the website for the past two months. This makes the backdoor option to buy Choice Privileges for $7.50 per 1,000 points unavailable. $7.70 per 1,000 points is a good alternative to discount points.

Choice Privileges points purchases used to be limited to US and Canada residents. The rules now read “Only valid in countries where the Choice Privileges rewards program is available.†This appears to be a program improvement.

Value of Choice Privileges points

Choice Privileges points potentially have significantly higher value than $7.70 per 1,000 points for many Choice Hotels and Nordic Choice Hotels in Europe. Prague, Paris, Porto and Ireland are some locations outside Scandinavia where low reward rates at 8,000 to 12,000 points per night offer significant savings on room rates.

My stay last week at Skt. Petri Copenhagen Ascend Collection cost 20,000 points for reward night when the published rate was $400 USD.

The option to buy 20,000 points for $154 with this sale can be a significant hotel rate discount (when buying 40,000 points for $308)for this Copenhagen hotel and many other high price, low reward rate hotels around the world.

There are hotel reviews for 20 or so Nordic Choice Hotels from stays over the past three years on my Loyalty Traveler Travels page.

I’m new to Choice points and had just discovered the points plus cash option is still gone. So I’m guessing this is more than just a technical glitch and they decided to pull it. Any word on what’s going on?
