Choice Privileges points deal for Carmel-by-the-sea summer

a map of a city

Today I share a Choice Privileges deal for travelers coming to my area of California – Monterey Peninsula and specifically Carmel-by-the-sea.

Monterey Peninsula is known as a vacation destination with a fine selection of hotels like The Lodge Pebble Beach, Hyatt Highlands Inn, InterContinental Monterey The Clement and nearly 200 other lodging choices.

Luxury hotels around here go for $300 to $800 per night for entry level rooms. Many of the 200 hotels in the area are older 60s and 70s motel looking properties clustered around Fremont Street and Munras Avenue in Monterey.

Monterey Peninsula is an area where rates double on weekends. Car loads of Californians want to get to the coast and escape the summer heat. Carmel-by-the-sea is one of the coolest weather places in California in summer. Foggy days are frequent and peak for the year during July and August. International tourism swells in summer.

Clarion Collection Carmel-by-the-sea 12,000 points reward nights

Clarion Collection Carmel-by-the-sea for 12,000 Choice Privileges points Sunday-Thursday this summer is quite a deal. The hotel rises to 30,000 points for Friday and Saturday nights.

Clarion Collection Carmel-by-the-sea would not be my top recommendation for a hotel in Carmel. The property looks like a 70s two-story motor court (like many other Carmel hotels), but the hotel is quite centrally located within the town center for walking around Carmel shops and restaurants. The beach is a ten minute walk away.

Rustic is de rigueur for Carmel-by-the-sea, a beach town nestled in the Monterey pines with tree root riddled street surfaces, no sidewalks in most of the town and no streetlights outside the shopping district.

Bring your flashlight for night walks to the beach.

At 12,000 points per night, Clarion Collection Carmel-by-the-sea is probably the best value deal you can find this summer in Carmel for a visit to the Monterey Peninsula.

Points purchases for Choice points don’t always post immediately, but often they indeed do.

For various rather new accounts with no prior purchase history, the time for the points to show up can even be a couple of days.

Normally I acquire Choice Privileges points through the year booking Points Plus Cash reward nights. Since that avenue has been offline since May, I bought some points this morning and my account updated instantly.

I suppose other buyers may have a different experience in points posting quickly.

Any word on when the points and cash will be back online, Ric?

@DaveinDC – No updates on Choice Privileges Points Plus Cash awards.
