World of Hyatt has finally come up with something that I find a little exciting for my travels in 2017. Hyatt Regency Amsterdam has opened as a category 4 hotel reward.
This hotel offers great redemption value for members holding a Hyatt Visa anniversary free night credit. I had already planned to use my IHG Rewards Club annual free night at InterContinental Amstel this summer. The new Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is only 500 meters east down Saphartistraat from IC Amstel.
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam has 211 rooms and 15 suites. The hotel location is described as the hip East Amsterdam. For me, this is a part of the city I am not too familiar with despite many weeks spent in Amsterdam over the past 20 years. My stay at InterContinental Amstel in Feb 2016 was the first time in 15 years I stayed east of the Amstel River.

While it may seem strange that I share my reviews of InterContinental Amstel in a post on the new Hyatt Regency Amsterdam, there is very little on the hotel website about the property. I searched the site for photos and there are not any photos of the hotel yet.
In fact, if I am interpreting the photo location correctly on the Hyatt Regency homepage, the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam logo at the top of the picture is actually superimposed over InterContinental Amstel. Saphatistraat is the bridge over the Amstel River to the right of Hyatt Regency Amsterdam image. Hyatt Regency Amsterdam should be located near the bottom center of the text image, hidden by the text box.
Two notable aspects of the hotel location for me. One is an Albert Heijn supermarket is located across the street from the hotel. Amsterdam is a relatively expensive city for restaurants. I tend to shop daily at Albert Heijn for food. The other convenience of the hotel location is Amsterdam Weesperplein Metro is midway between IC Amstel and Hyatt Regency Amsterdam for easy and quick access to and from Centraal Station. Two metro stops as I recall.
Also, Sarphatistraat has the #7 and #10 tram lines for easy access to the Museum Quarter and Leideseplein entertainment district in 10 to 15 minutes.
I look forward to checking out Hyatt Regency Amsterdam when I pass through the city this summer. I hate to admit it, but I let last year’s Hyatt Visa free Category 4 hotel night expire unused. I had planned to stay at Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, but never planned a trip to the city. There simply are not too many Hyatt Hotels in Europe at category 4.
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam looks like one of the best uses to me for a Hyatt Visa free night, which are limited to category 4 hotels. Andaz Amsterdam is a category 6 and Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport is category 3.
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam room rates currently are priced at 189 to 210 EUR per night on weeknights and bump up to 225-260 EUR on weekends.
I have a feeling this hotel might creep up to category 5 in 2018, if occupancy levels are strong this year.
