Choice Privileges launches their recurring promotion again next week for 8,000 points every two stays from March 2 to April 27, 2017. Choice Privileges members must register before their first stay.
This offer provides a variable number of bonus points added to your base points earned after two hotel stays to reach 8,000 points. There is a minimum guarantee of 5,000 bonus points.
If your base spend is over $300 for 2 stays, then you earn over 3,000 base points and your bonus will be 5,000 additional points.
If you spend $50 per night on two 1-night stays, then your base points are $100 x 10 = 1,000 points and your bonus will be 7,000 Choice Privileges points for a total 8,000 points after two stays.
One new term in the FAQ I do not recall from previous offers is a $40 minimum room rate. Last year I stayed two times at EconoLodge Monterey and Rodeway Inn Monterey when room rates were under $40 per night to earn this bonus.
The following rates are not eligible for Choice Privileges points:
Rooms booked at rates below $40 per night, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, or rooms booked through a travel agent or third party online retailer as part of pre-paid wholesale rates, wholesale packages or senior tours
Loyalty Traveler - How two $36 EconoLodge nights get me to 20,000 Choice Privileges points (March 7, 2016).
Why Call it a Free Night Promotion, if it is 8,000 points members earn?
The promotion is called earn a ‘free night’. There are 1,500 Choice Hotels worldwide where 6,000 or 8,000 points buys a free reward night.
Not all 8,000 points Choice Hotels low category reward places are dive hotels.
I stayed at Clarion Collection Hotel Temperance Malmo Sweden last month for 8,000 points. The breakfast and dinner buffet alone are worth 8,000 points considering the cost of food in Sweden. Average rates are $90 to $150 per night.

I have booked three hotel stays at Clarion Hotel Sign in Stockholm, Sweden in the past year for 10,000 points per night. Average rates there are $150 to $200 per night.
Choice Privileges points are my lifeline to Scandinavian cities to accompany all the airfare deals I find taking me repeatedly to Stockholm, Sweden, Copenhagen, Denmark and cities across Norway.
