WOW Air $70 one-way tickets to Europe wasted my best made travel plans

Oops, I did it again. I was sucked in yesterday by WOW Air low $70 one way tickets for San Francisco to Bristol, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and London.

Or rather I did it three times over with ticket purchases yesterday for $70 WOW Air flights. Don’t know how Kelley and I are getting back to California yet? I have a few weeks to figure out that part of my travel plan. Last month it turned out Norwegian Airlines $111 one way Stockholm to Oakland ticket brought me home.

I see Norwegian Air fares Stockholm to Oakland are still as low as $145. While WOW Air is a great fare, Norwegian is an airline I actually enjoy flying long-haul.

WOW $70 fares Feb14

Yesterday WOW put several routes on sale for $69.99 one way from airports across the USA. San Francisco, Boston and Miami.

The $70 ticket prices are only available one way to Europe. Getting back is $200 to $300 one way from Europe.

Also, a normal carry-on bag is $51 and a checked bag is $71 and a seat assignment will set you back at least $8 to $13 each way.

Last month I flew San Francisco to Copenhagen on a $69.99 one way ticket. I did not pay for any baggage or self-selected seat assignment fees and my final ticket price was $69.99 for a flight from SFO and out the door of Copenhagen’s Kastrup airport with two small carry-on bags, the largest being my small back pack with 9 days of clothing and a smaller bag with my winter boots. I ended up not needing my winter boots for the trip with 9 days of sun and clear skies in January with temperatures in the teens and 20s in Scandinavia, Czech Republic and Poland.

The difference this month is WOW Air changed their carry-on bag policy and allow only one carry on bag for free. Still, $121 one way for San Francisco to London is a great deal. Itineraries from SFO to Copenhagen or Frankfurt also allow a free 16 hour overnight in Iceland I will take advantage of on one of the tickets I bought.

The deal for me is I spent this past week putting together a travel plan for an Aegean Airlines elite status trip to set me up for Aegean Gold with a Scandinavian Airlines trip from SFO to Stockholm and travel through Greece, Serbia and Romania. I had been piecing together an itinerary for days and finally had it all planned out for about $700.

In an unexpected move yesterday, I tossed all my best made travel plans for an 11-day trip through southeastern Europe for $70 one way tickets to Europe. The low fare deals mean I will be traveling in April to Copenhagen and London in May on WOW $70 one-way tickets.

I was actually planning to ticket my 11-day trip to Sweden, Romania, Greece and Serbia yesterday afternoon when I suddenly changed course and purchased $70 WOW Air tickets for two unplanned trips to Europe. Now I will be flying to London on the day I had planned to be flying a cheap Aegean Airlines ticket from Bucharest to Belgrade.

$70 tickets to Europe are part of, and not a replacement for my plan to earn cheap Star Alliance Gold elite in 2017 through Aegean. Now to find another 4 cheap Aegean Airlines flight segments with my new travel dates for Europe.
