IHG Rewards Club launched their 2017 Accelerate promotion for stays January 1 – April 15, 2017. Members have their own targeted individual tasks for a minimum 30,000 bonus points. Complete the prescribed set of tasks and get a big bonus. IHG Accelerate 2017 Terms.

My Accelerate 2017-Q1 offer is for a total 49,700 bonus points. I can potentially earn over 22,100 bonus points with one hotel night. I need a minimum 2 nights to earn 39,700 bonus points. A minimum 5 hotel nights can complete all tasks for 49,700 bonus points.

Personally, I do not have any current plans to stay in an IHG hotel in January, but that is subject to change. I do have two reservations in London at Holiday Inn hotels in February at really low room rates for winter travel. These were reservations I already had planned.

Two hotel stays in London can satisfy 5 of 5 tasks with:

  • First stay at a Holiday Inn (3,000 points) and second stay at Holiday Inn (5,600 points), outside the Americas in London, England (12,000 points) and paid with IHG MasterCard (1,500 points). These are 2-night stay reservations. 4 tasks completed.
  • All I need to do is change one reservation to bonus points to complete 5 tasks (16,600 points) for 38,700 bonus points. I should earn between 4,000 and 5,000 more points for room rate and Platinum elite bonus points. (Note: I checked bonus points rates for London hotels and learned an interesting aspect to these rates, which I’ll write up in a different post today.)
  • If I stay a fifth night at any IHG brand hotel by April 15 I earn 10,000 bonus points more with a 5 nights task completed and all 6 Accelerate tasks.

My last Accelerate Sep-Dec 2016 promotion sucked. I earned 8,000 points from one night at a Holiday Inn in London and any more stays would have only earned double points. IHG lost my paid hotel stay business.

This promotion brings me back to Holiday Inn at a great time to load up on IHG Rewards Club points during the cheap hotel winter travel season in Europe. 50,000 bonus points can buy a lot of IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks hotel reward nights at 5,000 points each. The new list for February-March stays will post in the last week of January 2017.

    Ric…I already have a stay booked on March. Will it automatically pick that up, or will I have to cancel and re-book it since I just now registered for the program?

    Update Dec 17: – I received an answer from IHG PR contact that stays booked prior to January 1 will count for Accelerate 2017 as long as they are eligible rates.

    Per T&C: “Must be an IHG® Rewards Club member and must register your member number in advance to participate in this Offer (“Registration”). Number of bonus points listed above will be awarded after your Qualifying Stay at any IHG brand hotels, which must be booked and completed between 1 January 2017 and 15 April 2017 (both dates inclusive) at InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Hotel Indigo®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express®, Staybridge Suites®, Candlewood Suites®, EVEN® or Hualuxe™ hotels worldwide.”

    “which must be booked and completed between 1 January 2017 and 15 April 2017”
    Technically, wording could be interpreted as meaning your reservation has to be booked between Jan 1 and April 15, but that was not past practice for these promotions.

    I have not seen a definitive answer, but I think prior reservations to Jan 1 are eligible.

    Terms are clear that Accelerate 2017 registration must occur before your IHG stays will be counted for task completion. That happened to me on one of the previous Accelerate offers when I realized after my first IHG hotel stay that I had never registered for the promotion. I did not get retroactive credit.

    If I book and stay once (for 3,000) in the DC major market (for 2,400) in January (for 1,000) and pay with IHG credit (for 1,500) I will complete 3 of 4 (for 17,100). This makes 25,000 total for one night.

    As to the 8 nights (for 16,000) – forget it.

    So, not the most points I ever got from IHG, but the easiest.

    I had a holiday inn booked and then promotion came out – there would not give me credit for that stay towards the promotion because it says (like you posted) it must be booked and completed —- and i booked before promotion so it didn’t count and i called before my stay and confirmed it would count and rep told me wrong — just sayin

    Good reason to re-book, if possible and similar rate. Every couple weeks I have seen lower rates for Holiday Inn London hotels.

    Update Dec 17:
    IHG PR Representative emailed me to say stays booked prior to Jan 1 will count for Accelerate tasks as long as stay completed during promotion period on eligible rate.
