Los Angeles to Tokyo for under $500 is a very good airfare deal and there is wide open availability today with several major airlines including American, Delta and United nonstop flights for departures from late August into March 2017. Delta and United have $488 posted through their websites. A search on Momondo.com, Copenhagen-based meta-search engine pulls up some lower online travel agency fares including some with American Airlines nonstop flights for as low as $446 round trip.
Delta Airlines Los Angeles LAX – Tokyo Haneda HND nonstop flights
$487.66 round trip Sun Sep 4 – Tue Sep 13
United Airlines Los Angeles LAX – Tokyo NRT (UA) – Los Angeles LAX (ANA) nonstop flights
$487.06 round trip Sunday Nov 6 – Wed Nov 16
Momondo.com search LAX – TYO (HND/NRT)
$446.14 round trip (paylessflights.com) Sun Sep 4 – Tue Sep 13
This is probably a consolidator fare and possibly may not earn miles. A quick check of times shows this is American Airlines nonstop flights.
LAX-NRT Sep 4 11:15am departure 3:10pm arrival Sep 5
While this is a $250 discount on the fare AA is charging for the same flight, the catch is the return flight is one-stop via Dallas DFW with a 12 hour all-day layover in Dallas before the flight back to LAX. Great fare, but not a good itinerary. Check these low fare deals carefully, since they are not always the best deal when money saved is compared to other flight options available for less than $50 more.
Momondo.com also pulls up Star Alliance discount fares for some dates to drop the price to around $450 round trip.
I see low United fares available for $486.66 departure as late as March 30, 2017 with return flights in April and nonstop both ways.
This is one of the best deals I have seen for Tokyo in the past year. China Eastern has had fares this low, but that means a stopover in China. These nonstop low fare flights are a good low fare opportunity for LAX to Tokyo.
