California Fare Alert regional airports to Europe $600s August to March 2017

Fare Alert for Californians. In the past 24 hours fares have dropped to $600s with American and United from California regional airports across the state to many European cities for travel departures beginning in mid to late August and available through March 2017. These are primarily midweek departure prices and the holiday seasons are not discounted to this level, but once again, for about the 5th time in the past three months, this is another opportunity to get a discount fare to Europe at a price rarely seen from regional airports in California like Redding, Arcata, Monterey, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Fresno and all those places serviced by United Express and American Eagle to LAX and SFO. Many of these fares are comparable to fares from LAX and SFO.

The troubles in Europe with Nice and Turkey probably motivated this latest fare sale and it is truly a nationwide sale with discount fares to Europe from many airports all around the USA. When fares drop from regional airports in California, the deals are about as low as they ever get for airline tickets to Europe. I showed my wife the fare from Arcata/Eureka ACV to Rome at $679. She reminded me of how we paid $450 to travel to London in 1989 a couple of months after the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing. An unfortunate positive side effect to terrorist attacks in Europe are low airfare deals. These are becoming too common an occurrence over the past year.

ACV-FCO $649 UA Aug23-30

Ha! Ha! Look at the red box I marked on this page..As an off-and-on resident of Arcata/Eureka for 18 years I would have paid an extra $38 for every trip to avoid the 560 miles round trip drive to San Francisco I made dozens of times to get a reasonable airfare to places I traveled.

Here are fares from one of the more remote California cities: Arcata/Eureka, which illustrates the extent of low fare deals to Europe today from across the state.

Arcata/Eureka to Europe August 23 – 30, 2016

ACV-Europe Aug 23-30 July 18 Google Maps

$607.96 ACV – Madrid, Spain (Aug 23-31)

$633.06 ACV – Dublin, Ireland United

$636.76 ACV – Barcelona, Spain United

$656.86  ACV – Paris, France United (Aug 23-31)

$664.86 ACV – Milan, Italy MXP United

$678.96  ACV – Rome, Italy FCO United

$686.96  ACV – London LHR United

United Airlines Eureka/Arcata ACV – Madrid, Spain MAD

$607.96  Tue Aug 23 – Wed Aug 31

ACV-Madrid $608 UA Aug 23-31

If you aren’t afraid to go to Europe right now, then these are the deals to take advantage of to save hundreds of dollars off the typical price of tickets from California regional airports.

And if you are not a California resident, check your own airport for deals to Europe. This is a widespread fare deal available today and perhaps several days, but no guarantee when prices rise again.

  1. Thank you for posting this. Makes me hopeful that airfares behind the redwood curtain will start falling. It’s been a luxury the last few years to actually fly out of ACV. Of course I already have 3 trips to Europe booked out of SFO. I guess I will be making that drive.
