Miami is a city to keep an eye on for low fares to Europe as a subtle fare war has been happening there for the past month with very low fares like $330 round trip to Brussels nonstop with Jetairfly and $395 to Helsinki, Finland on SAS and low $400s to many Scandinavian cities. TAP Portugal has on and off again discount fares to much of Europe and there was a fare war battle with American yesterday, but that is off again today. Still, $649 for fall nonstop travel Miami to Lisbon is a good fare available today.
Miami Fare Round Up
Miami was one of the initial cities participating in the fare war to Europe that started early June, but the attacks here have been subtle compared to the constant barrage of deals from Chicago, New York and Washington DC. Star Alliance carriers SAS and TAP Portugal lead the way in Miami and American, Iberia and FinnAir have on and off again counter attacks. Some of the longest lasting deals have been out of Miami to airports around Scandinavia from when Star Alliance airline SAS had a 72-hour sale to Stockholm, Oslo, Bergen and Copenhagen with round trip tickets priced in the low $400s in early June that apparently has never stopped. Helsinki is on sale too with SAS this past month for travel from October through March 2017 on a route battle with American/FinnAir.
The deal for travelers who want Europe, but not necessarily the Nordic countries in late fall/winter is travel with Norwegian, SAS and a variety of other airlines flying from Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen will put you just about anywhere in Europe for under $100 one way or even round trip. Norwegian Airlines flies to over 50 cities in Europe. SAS flies nonstop Miami to Oslo or Copenhagen.

TAP Portugal and American Airlines/Iberia fare war
Yesterday I noticed American had dropped ticket prices to $600s for many cities in Germany as I was preparing to go out for another foggy 4th of July celebration in Monterey, California. There actually was more sun during the day than just about any day this past week in my hometown. Coastal fog in Monterey is most frequent in July and August, when tourist season keeps the area packed with visitors. There have been more hours during the day with fog than sun this past week and I live in one of the sunniest places on the Peninsula. You know how heavy smoke may obscure the fireworks by the end of the celebratory show in many places? That is kind of how our fireworks celebrations look at the beginning of the show through Monterey fog.
Cut to the chase and American Airlines ticket prices for Germany are back up in $700s today and I don’t have any fare deals to share for Oneworld flyers.
The story here is Star Alliance carrier TAP Portugal has been attacking Spain routes with low fares in the $600s for late summer/fall travel. American and Iberia several times over the past month dropped fares to low $600s for Portugal and Spain. Yesterday was a different fare war front when American dropped ticket prices to Germany into $600s for airports like Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg and others, while TAP Portugal had ticket prices in the $600s to many places in Europe. Those fares are not around today, but American/Oneworld fares have been appearing regularly at low $600s to Spain (Iberia Airlines), Germany (attack on Lufthansa) and TAP Portugal fares to places all over Europe have been dropping to $600s frequently the past couple of weeks. They will likely be back soon.
Miami flyers may want to keep an eye on fares for Spain or Germany with Oneworld Alliance airlines is something you desire.
TAP Portugal operates nonstop flights between Miami and Lisbon. These tickets are as low as $649 today for departures beginning late October.
TAP Portugal Miami – Lisbon nonstop

The bad news is TAP Portugal economy T class only earns 10% flight miles in most Star Alliance programs and no miles in United Mileage Plus. The best value is Miles & More for 25% flight miles on international flights between USA-Europe.
