American Airlines posts $519 low fares from New York JFK to Milan, Italy MXP today matching $517 fares from United Airlines Newark EWR-Milan posted yesterday, both airlines offering nonstop flights with travel dates from late August into May 2017. Another aspect of this JFK-MXP route are AA July fares at $698 to $723 round trip, if you want to beat the miles earning devaluation of AAdvantage effective August 1. Star Alliance airlines Lufthansa, Austrian and Brussels Airlines are competitive with JFK-MXP $552 round trip fares for Aug-May travel.
American Airlines also has New York JFK – Dublin on sale as low as $559 for travel Sep-May 2017. United has this route at $530 for EWR-DUB and Lufthansa/Star Alliance comes in at $588 for JFK-DUB.

JFK-MXP-LHR-JFK = 8,030 flight miles. Deduct 292 miles for BA MXP-LHR segment in economy S at 50% miles.
7,738 redeemable AAdvantage miles and EQM earned for this ticket. This ticket price base fare at $588 will earn as few as 2,940 miles for AAdvantage members without elite status for flights flown from August 1.
There are $698 and $712 fares available for this route with British Airways or Iberia operated return flights, but the caveat is London requires a change of airports between London Gatwick LGW and London Heathrow and AA tickets show Iberia marketed flights. London eats up any fare savings for most flyers and adds several hours of transit time in London and Iberia flights earns fewer redeemable miles.

United Airlines has lower EWR-MXP and EWR-DUB fares. Lufthansa/Swiss and other Star Alliance airlines have competitive ticket prices from New York JFK to Milan and Dublin. SkyTeam has low fares too, but I can’t find any of them bookable online. Google Flights fare searches all end up requiring a phone call to a SkyTeam airline for phone reservations. That is a common occurrence I find for SkyTeam low fares on Google Flights.
