This is a follow-up post to my article today about low one-way July fares with charter Condor Airlines from across the USA/Canada to Frankfurt with ticket prices as low as $160 USD one way from YVR to Frankfurt and $170 from Portland PDX and $200s from many California and west coast airports to Frankfurt. Many other cities in Europe are available for under $250 one way with Condor low July fares.
Those are fantastic ticket prices to Germany in July, but those are not the only fare deals around. Vancouver and Canada have much more competition for low summer fares to Europe and Vancouver is a particularly low priced airport for one-way flights to London, Paris and other cities in Europe in July.
Unfortunately, since I started working on this idea early this morning the low $213 USD one way fares in July with Air Canada Vancouver YVR to London Gatwick have gone up on most dates to $300s USD. I’ll continue with this fare ticketing strategy since there are other options and even a $300 Air Canada ticket one way to London might be useful to you.
Airline tickets one-way from LAX to Vancouver are currently priced under $100 one-way on United from Los Angeles and $120 from San Francisco. You can take advantage of low Vancouver one way fares to London and Europe, even if you don’t live in Vancouver.
The main problem with these one way low ticket prices is getting back to the USA/Canada in mid-summer. You need to find a frequent flyer award in July/August or a low fare deal back to the USA/Canada, assuming you want to come back. There are low fare deals from Europe to the USA in low $500s round trip with major alliance airlines, but most of these deals don’t start until mid-to-late August, while the low one way fares to Europe are only available for July departures. Dublin and Stockholm are two airports with lots of low fare deals to the USA.
If you have frequent flyer miles and can find one-way ticket back to your home base or you can take a 2- to 3-week vacation in Europe leaving late July and staying in Europe until mid-August, then these one-way fare deals might be a good ticketing strategy for you.
Want a summer fare deal to Europe? Go north to Canada
Vancouver YVR has several low cost carriers flying to Europe with Air Transat, Condor and WestJet.

WestJet puddle jump your way across Canada and earn AAdvantage and Delta Skymiles too
I really like this WestJet itinerary since it allows most of the day in St. John’s Newfoundland on a transit layover before flying off to London Gatwick.
WestJet Vancouver YVR – Halifax, Nova Scotia – St. John’s Newfoundland – London LGW
$286.75 USD ($370.41 CAD) one way Wednesday July 20
WestJet partners with both American Airlines AAdvantage and Delta Airlines. North America flights in WestJet economy D class earn 100% AAdvantage miles.
YVR-YHZ-YYT = 3,309 flight miles. 100% AAdvantage miles for Westjet economy D class.
Low Fare Europe – California round trip tickets in mid-August.
Stockholm, Olso, Copenhagen and Dublin are airports with consistently low fares to California. Prices for round trip tickets begin to drop in mid-August meaning you can fly back to your home base, which for me is the San Francisco Bay Area.
Here is just one example of a low fare round trip ticket back to San Francisco, USA with return flight at Thanksgiving holiday time.
KLM Oslo – Amsterdam – San Francisco
$578.18 USD (4819 NOK) Thu Aug 11 – Thu Nov 17
Of course you have to buy a ticket from London to Oslo, but that is under $100 USD one way in August with Norwegian Airlines.
And of course, if you pack light and only have a carry-on bag for the return flight in November, then you can always depart in Paris CDG and make the Thanksgiving trip an adventure in the City of Light.
Air Canada/United/Star Alliance competitive $250 USD one-way fares from Vancouver YVR to London
All these low one-way fares spurred Air Canada and Star Alliance carriers to drop their one-way ticket prices to London in July down to around $250 one way for departures in July. (Unfortunately, several July dates increased in ticket price for Air Canada while I wrote this post.)
Air Canada Vancouver YVR – Montreal YUL – Toronto YYZ – London LGW
$249.64 USD ($323.43 CAD) Sunday July 17
Google flights shows other dates in July with $290 USD United fares if you call Austrian Airlines. When I called, the representative punched in the flights and put me on hold then came back with a price quote well-over $1,000. I thought it odd she had to place me on hold and I wonder if the $290 fare was there, but she assumed it was a mistake fare? Anyway, you might have better luck with Austrian Airlines ticket prices for YVR-LGW than I did.
In conclusion, these are the kinds of ticketing strategies I use to visit many places with a few low fare tickets rather than booking a simple round trip ticket from California to Europe.
For about $1,000 you can fly San Francisco or Los Angeles to Vancouver on United/Air Canada ($100 USD), fly across Canada and to London on WestJet ($287), spend a day in Newfoundland, while earning AAdvantage and Delta frequent flyer miles. Or fly for less and more directly on Air Canada ($250 USD). Vacation in the UK, buy a one way ticket to Norway and visit Oslo ($100), then fly back to San Francisco or Los Angeles in August with an overnight in Amsterdam as a send-off party from Europe. Your travel to Paris for Thanksgiving is already booked ($580). You have booked 1.5 trips to Europe, seen several cities and spent less than the price of a ticket directly from California to Europe this month. Lowest priced tickets from California to Europe are hard to find for July departures at under $1,000 today.
There are many kinds of cheap deals to Europe and back to the USA if you learn consider taking advantage of all kinds of airlines with low one way fares and airports with low cost routes. WestJet, Condor, and legacy carriers have all kinds of cheap tickets under $500 round trip from Europe to the USA for August to December departures from Europe to North America.
Tying this all back to the Condor charter airline one way fare deals from California and the Pacific Northwest, the flyer who considers utilizing low fare routes throughout the west to travel to Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco and Los Angeles opens up many more possibilities for low cost trips to Europe.
