United LAX/SFO to New Delhi, India $703 Sep-Nov; LAX-Mumbai $776

United has relatively low fares at $703 round trip for Los Angeles or San Francisco to New Delhi DEL India with all United-operated flights on one-stop via Newark EWR. These fares are available for departures on some dates in September to November and they are lower fares from California than from Newark ($1,050 to $1,200).

Star Alliance member airline Air China has fares as $606 round trip.

United Airlines  Los Angeles LAX – Newark EWR – New Delhi, India DEL

United Airlines  San Francisco SFO – Newark EWR – New Delhi, India DEL

Air China Los Angeles – Beijing PEK – New Delhi DEL

LAX-DEL $606 Expedia Air China Nov 13-27

While this is a lower fare than United, I saw Air China LAX-DEL as low as $475 to $506 on May 31.

United $776 LAX to Mumbai

The schedule sucks for this all United flight itinerary since it involves 11 hours in EWR each way, but might not be bad if you have lounge access and work to do.
