Turns out LAX and SFO flights in the mid-$400s to Germany are just some of the low fare routes available for travel on Air Berlin to Germany from September to December. Air Berlin flights from Chicago, Miami and New York JFK are also pricing at $440s to $480s round trip through online travel agencies like Expedia, Orbitz and Priceline to several cities in Germany.
Here is my post yesterday showing how these flights do not price on Google Flights or Airberlin.com, but easy to find on Orbitz, Expedia and Priceline online travel agency OTA sites.

Departure Dates: The deal here is these fares are mostly not seen on Google Flights and AirBerlin.com prices these flights around $700. All I can provide in guidance on how to locate these fares is pick a city pair and try dates on Orbitz.com or one of the OTA sites. I found these fares below by randomly trying weekdays between September and December and most fare searches show ticket prices in $400s.
The real deal here are low fares from Los Angeles and San Francisco are about the same ticket price as Miami and JFK to Germany.
