Washington has been the hottest battle for low fares with fares dropping to $400s for many cities in Europe for fall travel several times in the past few weeks. The past couple days these sale cities in Europe dropping to $400s only lasts a couple of hours. I analyzed Washington fares less than three hours ago for an article, took a nap, and came back on line to see SecretFlying.com posted WAS-AMS for $435 round trip. That fare was not there when I went to sleep and it is not there now, which means it was available for fewer than three hours. Similar short-lived fares happened yesterday several times.
Icelandair Washington IAD-Amsterdam for as low as $444 round trip and dozens of dates between Sep and November are $500 or less. These brief fare drops from the major alliance airlines are responses to Icelandair low fares, but the Alliance fares are lower to most of the cities listed below.
On the positive side for Washington area flyers are the availability of about a dozen cities today in the $500s round trip for fall travel across the different alliance airlines.
