The fare war moved to London over the past day with American, Delta and United dropping economy ticket prices to London LHR and London LGW into the $500s from several cities including New York, Washington D.C., Chicago for travel September to April on some routes and shorter sale periods on others.
The deal is Icelandair is in day 3 of a 4 day sale ending Sunday June 12 at midnight Pacific. Delta and United initially placed Manchester MAN and Birmingham BHX airports on sale Thursday not London. Icelandair had a far lower fare to London from its US airports than major alliance airlines.
Last night, American Airlines, the major player sitting out the fare war battles at Icelandair USA airports joined the fare war. This means there are some discounts for London flights with at least four airlines from several markets. Icelandair airports with low fares are Washington IAD, New York EWR/JFK, Boston BOS, Chicago ORD.
Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels and Amsterdam are also on sale from most of these airports.

There are some routes with sale fares even around Christmas holidays. These deals will likely be the first to go. London is usually well over $1,000 round trip in late December/New Year’s.
