UA/DL/AA Chicago to Europe $494-$641 Sep-Dec, Icelandair ORD London LGW $491

Update June 9 – 11:05am Pacific: Due to my technical error, this Chicago post was an overwrite of my earlier New York fares post. If you came to this page via a New York fares link, then see my replacement post for New York Fares.

Loyalty Traveler – United and Delta fare war New York to Europe routes under $600 round trip (June 9).

Chicago ORD is one of the low fare airports in today’s version of the Alliance fare war with Delta, United and their alliance partners competing with low Icelandair tickets on several routes. The ten day old fare war between the alliances is concentrated on New York, Washington and Chicago today and primarily between Delta and United. I do not see many low fare Oneworld routes for Europe travel.

Chicago has several routes in the $500s and low $600s for travel from Sep 15 to Dec 15 with Delta and United. Icelandair has many of these same routes on sale and it is hard to say if Delta and United are battling each other or their low fares are a response to Icelandair deals from EWR, IAD and ORD.

  1. Oops. Apparently I did not start a new file and I messed up today’s posts by overwriting my New York post with this Chicago post.

I have no backup of the New York fares article. Rewriting the piece and it should be back online around 11am Pacific time.

  2. What happened to all the NYC fares?! I sent a link to this page to a bunch of people and now they’re all complaining that I sent them ORD only. (sigh)

  3. Andrew G – I write Loyalty Traveler posts on LiveWriter. and publish them directly to my blog.

It has been more than a year since I last made this mistake, but apparently I did not start a new file when I started writing Chicago and I did not edit the link name, so when I hit publish, the Chicago post rewrote over the earlier New York post.

I have just published a new version of the New York fares to Europe available today. I think I have more fares than in my first post.
