USA to London nonstop flights a whole lot cheaper with Norwegian Airlines

Norwegian Airlines (airline code DY) has opened up London to far lower ticket prices in 2016 with nonstop flights to London Gatwick Airport LGW from several USA airports including Los Angeles LAX, Oakland OAK, Las Vegas LAS, Boston BOS, New York JFK, Fort Lauderdale FLL and Orlando MCO.

Boston and Oakland launched service to London LGW this month. Las Vegas is scheduled to begin service October 31, the same date seasonal service to London ends for Oakland.

Boston BOS – London LGW 10:20pm – 8:25am nonstop 4x weekly Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday service 6 hr. 15 min. flight time.

London LGW – Boston BOS 4:50pm – 8:20pm nonstop 4x weekly Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday service 7hr. 30 min. flight time.

The deal with London at anytime of the year, and especially in summer, is the return flight to the USA is far more expensive.

Fares like these are why I was so excited to find tickets from Scandinavia back to the USA for $550 round trip yesterday. A round trip from Scandinavia to the USA is sufficient to get home to the USA in July on a major airline at the same cost as a Norwegian Airlines one-way ticket. Plus you have the next one way back to Europe in hand for your next adventure.

Swiss or British Airways will fly you Stockholm to Boston departing in July for $536 round trip. This example shows a return to Stockholm Saturday October 15. You just saved yourself from buying another Norwegian one-way fare to Europe. Still, you might need Norwegian one way prices to get back to the USA again after the October trip in Europe.

Round trip flight Stockholm to Boston departing in July is a lower round trip ticket price than a one-way ticket from London LGW to Boston on Norwegian in July.

Fly to London on low Norwegian one way fare in July, fly London LGW to Stockholm ARN for $72 one-way on Norwegian July 20 and fly home to Boston on Swiss or British Airways (AA codeshare ticket is available) July 21. You have your next ticket back to Stockholm later in the year for about $25 more than buying a one-way fare back to Boston in July on Norwegian. There are many low cost Norwegian, SAS and other airlines from Stockholm that will fly you to most places in Europe for under $100 one-way. Pack only a carry-on and you can choose to get off the plane in London or Zurich rather than flying back to Stockholm on the return flights. Norwegian Airlines one way fares back to Boston are far lower in October or November.

Las Vegas to London Gatwick

Norwegian’s Las Vegas service to London is more exciting for me. There are usually many more options for cheap flights to Europe from the east coast. Not so much from the western USA. Las Vegas is connected to my home airport Monterey, California MRY by low cost carrier Allegiant Airlines.

Las Vegas begins London Gatwick service October 31, 2016, the day after seasonal service ceases for LGW from OAK SF/Oakland, California.

Las Vegas flights are 2x weekly, Monday and Thursday.

  • LAS – LGW 6:00pm – 10:50am for 9hr 50min flight.
  • LGW – LAS 12:10pm – 3:00pm for 10hr 50min flight on Dreamliner 787.

$532.40 for Las Vegas to London LGW on nonstop flights is quite a deal without the need to scrutinize airfare every day for weeks seeking a low fare ticket from a major carrier like American or United.
