Quick May Trip Hainan Air $474 to $509 San Jose SJC to Shanghai and several China airports

Alaska Airlines partner Hainan Air has a very low fare to several airports in China, if you can travel this week. The airfare is a staggeringly low $474 round trip if you can leave as early as tomorrow. Hainan flies nonstop to Beijing PEK out of San Jose SJC, California’s under-utilized international airport terminal. There is currently a $509 round trip fare more widely available in May with Hainan flying San Jose to Shanghai and several other airports around China for other dates in May.

Airfare to Beijing as a destination is more expensive and drops to $559 round trip with Hainan beginning August 2016.

Five airports at $474 round trip on Hainan Airlines

  • SJC – Shanghai SHA
  • SJC – Xi’an XIY
  • SJC – Chengdu CTU
  • SJC – Fuzhou FOC
  • SJC – Guangzhou CAN
  • SJC – Hong Kong HKG $500 to $517

Hainan Airlines  San Jose SJC – Guangzhou CAN

$473.46  Wed May 4 – Sun May 15

SJC-CAN $474 Hainan May 4-15

You will want to check fare codes for Hainan flights and look for U restricted economy to earn 50% Alaska Mileage Plan miles. One itinerary I checked had Economy E outbound and U inbound. Economy E code does not earn miles with Alaska. Air Berlin, Etihad and Hainan all earn 50% flight miles in both E and U class.

  1. American, Delta and United all have lots of low fares to China, around $600. If you have elite status on any one of those U.S airlines. you’d be better off paying $100 more to be able to select more comfortable seats (exit row, comfort+, or even business class upgrade). Not to mention better food and entertainment options.

  2. There have been frequent fare sales with major airlines to main cities in China this year. This sale caught my attention for low price and routes I had not noticed before on sale with AA, DL, UA and alliance partners.
