This is the time of year when the airfare deals to Europe start drying up as spring into summer season gets underway. Scandinavian airports are still the best location for low fares from California.
All three alliances offer airfares in the $590 to $650 range to several Scandinavian airports for some departure dates in April and early May with Oneworld (American/British Airways/Finnair), SkyTeam (Delta/Air France/KLM) and Star Alliance (United/SAS/Swiss/Lufthansa) flights.
The main airports for low fares are Copenhagen CPH and Billund BLL in Denmark, Stockholm ARN and Gothenburg GOT in Sweden, Oslo OSL, Bergen BGO and Stavanger SVG in Norway.

San Francisco offers similarly priced fares from all three alliances for April and early May departures to Scandinavia. These airports are priced $200 to $500 less than other European countries. Round trip travel from these Scandinavian airports to countries around Europe is often less than $100 round trip.
My ticketed trips this past year have used Copenhagen, Stockholm and Bergen for low cost transatlantic travel from California with American Airlines tickets. To and from these airports I have flown for under $100 to Prague, Amsterdam, London and Geneva for around $50 each way. Last summer we flew round trip from Copenhagen to London for $67 on RyanAir.
