Norwegian LAX or OAK to London $563 October 2016

Low priced tickets between Los Angeles or Oakland and London Gatwick flying Norwegian Air nonstop flights are $563 round trip for October and November 2016 (note: only October dates for seasonal Oakland flights).

Norwegian Air flies nonstop between Los Angeles LAX and London Gatwick LGW on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday year-round. Seasonal nonstop service from Oakland OAK to London LGW begins May 12, 2016 and departures are Sunday, Monday and Thursday through October 2016.

Norwegian and WOW, the other upstart transatlantic low cost airline flying from California to Europe, do not offer very low fares in peak summer months. The real deals here are ticket prices for off-peak travel months. I flew Norwegian from Oakland to Amsterdam on a $211 fare in January and I am flying Stockholm ARN to Oakland in April on a $148 fare.

The deal available now is for travel from Oakland in October or from Los Angeles October to early December with round trip fares as low as $563.

Norwegian Oakland to London LGW round trip low fares

  • October-November $563
  • September $679
  • August $945
  • July >$1,000

Norwegian OAK-LGW fares

OAK-LGW one-way fare drops to $244.90 in October.

LGW–LAX low one-way fare is $317.30 for $562.20 base fare Los Angeles to London round trip. Oakland has the same fares.

How much are Norwegian’s bag and seat fees?

The main add-on to consider with Norwegian Airlines is the cost for checked bags and seat assignments. You can bring a carry-on and one small personal item for free and that might save you $90 on a round trip ticket.

  1. If you need a checked bag, the fee is $45 each way for $90 on a round trip ticket.
  2. If you want an assigned seat, pay $45 each way for $90 on a round trip ticket.
  3. If you want two meals with dinner and breakfast, pay $45 each way for $90 on a round trip ticket.

You can purchase all three of these extras with a LowFare+ ticket for $90 more each way to pay a total $180 round trip instead of $270 to buy one checked bag, a seat assignment and meals.

Or bring your own food, gamble on the seat assignment and pray you don’t have to fly 11 hours in a middle seat and pack light for carry-on bags only. The total ticket price is then $562.20 round trip on Norwegian Air for Oakland or Los Angeles to London Gatwick LGW.

I have a feeling I might fly Norwegian again in fall 2016 to visit London on a low cost round trip ticket. For me, flying 11 hours economy class is not a big deal if I can save frequent flyer miles for destinations where there are no low fares. Travel between the USA and London is a significant discount with Norwegian Airlines compared to the average fare from the major legacy airlines like American, British Airways, Delta, and United (usually around $900 to 1,000 round trip).

The savings on the cost of airfare flying Norwegian leaves me with more money to handle the high cost of hotels in London.
