El Mangroove, Guanacaste, Costa Rica is one of the recent additions to Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand. The Pacific coast hotel has received several accolades and awards since opening in 2015 as a beachfront hotel located 14 miles from Costa Rica’s Liberia LIR airport in the Pacific coast resort area.
El Mangroove has 85 junior suites, a 130 foot pool with views of the Gulf of Papagayo, 150 meters of beachfront and 17 acres of grounds. The hotel states it is the closest beachfront hotel to Liberia Airport at 14 miles. Still, in a resort area like Guanacaste, the transportation cost to the hotel is $60USD for a taxi or airport shuttle.
El Mangroove was awarded Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence 2015 and 2016 as “Best Newcomer,” and “Best Waterside hotel,” respectively. Additionally in 2015, it received the 4 star Forbes Guide award, and was named Luxury Boutique Hotel of the Year by Luxury Travel Guides.

Tico Times, a Costa Rica newspaper with an El Mangroove hotel review from February 2014 raves about the food at the hotel restaurants as setting a standard for the Guanacaste region that includes hotels like Andaz and Four Seasons. There was also a sexual component to the hotel mentioned in the review that I would be interested to know whether it remains in the Autograph Collection version of El Mangroove.
In our nightstand, complimentary condoms were packaged in clamshell cases that read, “help: I’m horny.”
