IHG Rewards Club has a two-day sale offering 100% bonus points on any purchase from 1,000 to 60,000 points. The sale ends tonight at 11:59pm EST, February 26. This is obviously the second day of the sale.
IHG Rewards Club normally has three price points.
- Buy 1,000 to 10,000 points at $13.50 per 1,000. (2x points = $6.75)
- Buy 11,000 to 25,000 points at $12.50 per 1,000. (2x points = $6.25)
- Buy 26,000 to 60,000 points at $11.50 per 1,000. (2x points = $5.75)
Purchase 1,000 points at $13.50 rate and you get 2,000 points. Buy 60,000 points at $11.50 rate and get 120,000 points.
A large points purchase at 26,000 points reduces the rate after bonus points to $5.75 per 1,000 points. This is the best rate IHG Rewards Club sells points. This is also a good time to get around the annual calendar year purchase limit of 60,000 IHG Rewards Club points with the opportunity to buy up to 120,000 points today. Bonus points do not count toward the 60,000 points calendar year purchase limit.
The best value is a purchase from 52,000 points for $299 to 120,000 points for $690.
Are 52,000 IHG Rewards Club points for $299 a good deal?
This can be a great deal if you have a specific redemption in mind where you know the cost of points for reward nights is far less than the cost of paid rates at a hotel. I redeemed 40,000 IHG Rewards Club points in late January for 8 nights on PointBreaks in Belgium and Lithuania for room nights priced over $800.

On the other end of the spectrum, I redeemed 50,000 points for a stay last week for Saturday night at the Venetian for a room that cost $335 after tax and I still had to pay a $32 resort fee for my reward night. That hotel is now 60,000 points after the recent reward night increases for IHG Rewards Club.
In my case, the redemption at the Venetian will earn back 28,000 points through the IHG Rewards Club Accelerate promotion. I purchased 52,000 IHG Rewards Club points for $299 during the last 100% bonus points offer in late 2015.
Selective use of my purchased points means I received good value from the previous 100% bonus points purchase offer. In general, there are a lot of hotels where you will not get good value from points purchased, even when paying $5.75 per 1,000 points.
Personally, I like to have a six-figure stash of IHG Rewards Club points. Nearly 5,000 hotels worldwide means there are generally good value reward redemptions for some places I travel. But I don’t plan to buy IHG Rewards Club points today, since the IHG Accelerate 2016 promotion offers for my wife and I will replenish most of the 90,000 points I redeemed for 9 IHG reward nights this past month with only three more paid IHG hotel nights by April 30.
