WOW Air tickets are now on sale today for new Reykjavik KEF to Los Angeles LAX and San Francisco SFO routes beginning in June 2016. There are a few dates in June and beginning again in late September with $99 one-way fares from LAX/SFO to Iceland or $199 one-way fares to several cities in Europe including Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, London, Bristol, Dublin and others.
You can fly to Iceland and Europe Cheap,
Coming Back Not So Cheap
The real WOW deal is only the flight price for one-way travel to Europe with dates in June and from late September at $99 one-way LAX or SFO to Iceland and $199 one-way to several airports around Europe.
Flying back from Iceland to LAX/SFO is a lowest fare of $299 available for a few dates in June 2016, the month WOW Air service launches California routes. There are $389 fares for July travel KEF-LAX and fares drop back to $319 September 20.
$398 round trip base fare Los Angeles to Reykjavik, Iceland
The lowest base fare I see for flights in June 2016 from LAX/SFO to Reykjavik Iceland is $398 round trip. As a rule of thumb, you need to add about $150 to $200 per round trip ticket to pay for seats and bag fees on WOW Air. The actual final ticket price is about a $500 to $550 round trip ticket. WOW Air bag fees and seat fees analysis appears later in this article.
California to Paris for $199 base fare and $524 round trip base fare before bag and seat fees
The better deal is actually for flights all the way to mainland Europe like Frankfurt FRA or Paris CDG.
$199 SFO-CDG one way fare is enticing and the return flight is a $325 CDG-SFO one way fare for a $524 round trip fare San Francisco to Paris.
Plan on high bag fees with WOW Air
Last July I flew WOW Air from Boston to Copenhagen on a low $363.62 round trip fare. Seat assignments were $3 per segment. Bag fees were $37 for one carry-on each way and $67 for one checked bag each way. The bag fees and seat assignments for these California flights are even higher priced.

CDG-SFO WOW Air bag fees
WOW Air only allows 5kg/11lb for one free carry-on bag. You have to pay the carry-on bag fee if you want a weight allowance of 12kg/26lb. I saw lots of people pulling out credit cards in Boston last July at the WOW Air check-in counter to pay bag fees at even higher airport prices. WOW staff weighed every item. There was no sneaking on extra weight in carry-on bags or carrying on more than one bag for the WOW flight I flew from Boston to Iceland
WOW Air Bag Fees LAX and SFO California to Paris
One Carry-On bag up to 12 kg/26 lb. = $48 to Iceland or $57.00 USD for a connection to another European airport.
$325 CDG-SFO one-way fare rises to $382 after adding one carry-on bag fee.
One Checked Bag up to 20kg/44 lb. = $67 to Iceland or $76.00 USD for WOW connection to another European airport.
$325 CDG-SFO one-way fare rises to $458 after adding one carry-on bag $57 and one checked bag $76.
Want a Seat Assignment? Pay $7 to $29 per flight segment.
Those are some devilish bag and seat fees for WOW Air travel.
WOW Airlines San Francisco – Paris round trip
Lowest ticket price = $693 round trip in June 2016 after extra fees.
At this point the round trip fare to Europe is comparable to many legacy carriers.

Tuesday June 21 – Monday June 27
There are great deals to Iceland and other airports around Europe flying from Los Angeles or San Francisco in June 2016. Flying round trip is about triple the cost. Still, $518 round trip for summer travel from California to Iceland or about $700 to Europe in late June is a decent deal.
