Loyalty Traveler Analysis

I needed to check a few hotels before I even found the ‘More is Less’ discount rate. Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort in Stuart, Florida offers 15% off 3-night and 20% off 4-night stays.

Marriott Hutchinson Island FL Resort

Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort Stuart, Florida.

Monday January 25 – Thursday January 28 (3-night stay)

‘Sometimes More is Less’ Rate = $178.00 + $15 daily resort fee.

3-night rate after tax Total: $642.69

Marriott Hutchinson Island 3-night rate Jan16

My experience with Marriott Resort discounts is there is often a better deal through the hotel website ‘special offer’ listings. Rates like 3rd or 4th night free, breakfast, dining and resort activity credits sometimes offer a decent discount of a couple hundred dollars on an extended stay.

Marriott Hutchinson Deals Offers

Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort website has a ‘DEALS’ tab for special offers at the hotel. I checked AAA rates and found a better deal.

Cheap Marriott Resort Breakfast

AAA Hot Deals rate at Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort includes daily breakfast at the hotel and rates start at $189 per night for these dates compared to $178 for the ‘Sometimes More is Less’ promotional rate.

AAA rate has same 3-day before arrival cancellation penalty as ‘Sometimes More is Less’ rate.

Marriott Hutchinson Island AAA total Jan16

$226.44 per night AAA Hot Deals with breakfast vs. $214.23 ‘More is Less’ 15% discount rate.

That extra $12.21 per night buys hotel restaurant breakfast for two guests each morning of the hotel stay. I assume that is a $40+ daily value based on typical resort hotel prices. Breakfast each morning at the resort is worth the extra $36 on a 3-night stay at $6.00 per person each meal.

Sometimes More is Less

There might be some good value rates at one of the 30 Marriott Resorts participating in this ‘Sometimes More is Less’ promotion.

For Marriott’s Hutchinson Island, Florida beach resort, my findings show sometimes paying more, like booking the AAA Hot Deals rate at $12 more per night with breakfast ‘is less’ than booking a promotional resort discount rate.
