Club Carlson Double Points Rates to Dec 31, 2016 are poor value

Club Carlson Double Points rates offer members 40 points per dollar for hotel stays in 2016. This offer is available for Carlson hotel brands in the Americas region including Radisson, Radisson Blu, Park Plaza and Park Inn.

These double points are not free. You have to book a higher rate 2x points offer.

Club Carlson Double Points 2016 rates

Oh Lord, Park Inn Fresno again.

Time to visit Fresno, California again for strictly analytical purposes due to a couple of different Club Carlson hotel brands.

Radisson Fresno Conference Center is a category 3 hotel for 28,000 points per night. February 5, 2016 room rates have a $101.15 nonrefundable rate and $130.90 for Double Points rate. Price difference for double points is about $34 with extra 13% hotel tax paid on the higher 2x points rate.

  • Double Points $130.90 Rate earns 5,230 Club Carlson points ($131 x 40 points/$1).
  • $101.15 Nonrefundable rate earns 2,023 Club Carlson points.
  • Bad Double Points Deal. Pay extra $34 for 3,207 points or $10.60 per 1,000 points.
  • Club Carlson sells points for $7 per 1,000 points.

Park Inn Fresno

Park Inn Fresno is a category 2 hotel for 15,000 points per night. The room rate Feb 5, 2016 is $84.15 nonrefundable rate. Double points is $103.95. Price difference is about $23 with extra tax paid on the higher 2x points rate. No points are earned for taxes.

  • $84 rate earns 20 points/$1 = 1,683 Club Carlson points.
  • $104 rate earns 40 points/$1 = 4,158 Club Carlson points.
  • Pay extra $23 to earn extra 2,475 Club Carlson points.
  • Bad Double Points Deal. Pay $9.29 per 1,000 points.
  • Club Carlson sells points for $7 per 1,000 points.

The value improves when Double Points rate is compared to the best flexible rate. I rarely buy nonrefundable room rates. The best flexible rates for Radisson Fresno ($120) and Park Inn Fresno ($99) are discounted 15% with nonrefundable advance purchase rate. AAA rates give 10% off for these same dates.

    • $89.10 AAA rate earns 20 points/$1 = 1,782 Club Carlson points.
    • $104 Double Points rate earns 40 points/$1 = 4,158 Club Carlson points.
    • Pay extra $17 after tax and earn extra 2,376 Club Carlson points.
    • Bad Double Points Deal.  Pay $7.16 per 1,000 points.
    • Club Carlson sells points for $7 per 1,000 points.

Country Inn & Suites has a more restrictive offer, excluding weekend nights and only Sunday to Thursday stays count.

Loyalty Traveler limited analysis conclusion: Club Carlson Double Points rates are a BAD DEAL. Double Points rates generally cost more than simply buying Club Carlson points through the loyalty website.

  1. Your right this is a bad deal on the surface but not if your booking it for corporate travel. Unethical yes but some people will say “it’s not my money”
