The former Conrad Chicago will reopen as The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Chicago on September 1, 2015. The hotel is SPG category 5 at 12,000 points for a standard reward night and 16,000 points in peak season. There are 300 rooms in a location just off the Magnificent Mile downtown Chicago retail and commercial center of the city. I recall Trader Joe’s market across the street from a Chicago hotel stay I had at the nearby Four Points Magnificent Mile Chicago a couple of years ago. That hotel is now AC by Marriott Chicago Downtown.
I read a hotel industry report yesterday citing Chicago as the hot spot of USA hotels with vibrant growth in the hotel sector since the recession years.

Rates at The Gwen start in the $350 range for September and October stays. Thanksgiving week in late November sees rates drop to under $200 per night for a Superior entry-level category 375 sq.ft. room. Or 12,000 Starpoints for a reward night. There are no peak season dates posted for this hotel yet, although the hotel name already appears on the SPG category 5 hotel list.
