China Southern had low fares from LAX to several airports in Asia on Wednesday. When I checked fares for an article on Thursday, China Eastern had the lowest fares. Both China-based airlines are members of SkyTeam Alliance.
It has been common these past six months to find the lowest fares to India and southeast Asia airports with one of these two airlines. Lately, more far flung destinations like India, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines have had their lowest fares via China and Chinese airlines.
Travel dates from late August to early December are available at low fare price for most of these routes.
China Southern has the advantage in having its low fare T class qualify for 25% redeemable miles with Delta SkyMiles and 50% MQM, but only 5% MQD for elite qualification. China Eastern low fare economy X class is not a miles earning fare in any SkyTeam Alliance airline frequent flyer program.
China Eastern flights route through Shanghai PVG and China Southern has its primary hub in Guangzhou CAN.
