One strategy to keep in mind when flying to Europe is the potential for far lower airfare departing from Canada compared to USA departures. This was a major strategy I promoted back in March and April of 2015 for deep airfare discounts from Vancouver and Toronto to London and Paris for summer 2015.
Here is a look at the fare difference for round trip flights to London from Toronto compared to USA departures for travel in September 2015. Departing from Canada is also a good strategy for lower airfare during Thanksgiving Holiday week in November.
Delta Airlines Detroit DTW – London LHR (nonstop flights)
$1,149.10 Wednesday September 9 – Wednesday September 16
Lower fares to London
Virgin Atlantic Toronto YYZ – Detroit DTW – London LHR
$567 USD ($743.56 CAD) Wednesday September 9 – Wednesday September 16
This is one of the examples of the fare difference between USA and Canada departures. These same Virgin Atlantic nonstop flights DTW-LHR are priced at $1,200 round trip when your ticket originates in Detroit. Depart from Toronto and Delta Airlines will fly you to and from Detroit for the Virgin Atlantic nonstop round trip flights to London for $567 round trip, less than half the fare of flying out of Detroit.
American Airlines will fly you YYZ-CDG Paris for $542 round trip Sep 15-22 via JFK. You will pay $781 to fly JFK-CDG on same flights.
