United and Delta drop their nonstop fares from Los Angeles to Tokyo to $699 round trip for travel into April 2016. These are close to the lowest fares I recall for 2015. The lowest fare on this route to Tokyo I have seen for 2015 is today’s $515 round trip fare on Skyteam airline China Eastern.

Star Alliance member Air China has LAX-PEK-NRT for these same dates at $590. Most low fare dates with Air China are posted at $660. At that price, you might as well go with a nonstop on United or ANA for $40 more. One good week for Air China flights is when they will fly you to Tokyo over Thanksgiving week in November for $660. United and ANA are $800.
