Routing kind of depends on your flying preferences. The total distance is about the same when flying SFO-GRU via Miami or SFO-GRU via LAX. The main factor is whether you want to knock out the trip with one long 6,150 LAX-GRU segment or break the trip up into two smaller segments with SFO-MIA at 2,585 miles and MIA-GRU at 4,072 miles.

When flying economy class, I kind of prefer the shorter segments rather than suffering through a 13-hour economy class long haul flight.

Los Angeles fares are priced about $120 to $200 more on American Airlines for this route.

    Better the deal, the more likely it will be a short-lived deal.
