2015-Q3 promotions and deals Airfare Deals American Airlines American Airlines AAdvantage Brazil Los Angeles LAX Rio de Janeiro GIG San Francisco SFO Sao Paulo GRU

American San Francisco $635 to Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles $591 Sao Paulo

American Airlines dropped fares substantially today for California to Brazil routes. I know this fare drop happened today since I was up past midnight studying American Airlines fares to Brazil yesterday and they were about $100 to $150 more.

American Airlines Los Angeles to Sao Paulo $591 via Miami and are stay in low $600s through mid-August through November on most dates, any day of the week.

LAX-GRU $591 AA Sep15

American Airlines $590.74 LAX-MIA-GRU-LAX for 12,570 flight miles.

Of course, I am personally searching to maximize flight miles for AAdvantage EQM. A fast track to elite offer has me seeking 30,000 EQM by October 9, 2015.

The LAX-GRU fare is within $50 of the lowest AA fare I have seen for this route since March 2015.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Even better, I think low fares to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from San Francisco are the real deal. For me, a trip or two to Rio would be an opportunity to check Olympics hotels and Olympics events preparations.

SFO-GIG $635 AA Sep15

San Francisco – Rio de Janeiro GIG, Brazil via New York JFK

$635.33 September 21-28, 2015

14,662 flight miles and AAdvantage 14,662 EQM

This fare is within $75 of the lowest fare I have seen for the route since March and $50 below the typical low fare I saw for this route in May 2015.

I might knock out the AAdvantage 30,000 EQM with two trips to Rio de Janeiro. This route can be ticketed for $529 originating in Brazil and routing through New York. Altogether, two ticketed trips would earn 29,324 EQM for $1,165 and leave me needing less than 700 EQM more by October 9 to earn AAdvantage Executive Platinum with my targeted elite fast track offer.

GIG-SFO $529 AA Sep 15

Rio de Janeiro GIG to San Francisco SFO R$1627.10 BRL = $528.61 USD

Hi, I dont have a Brazil visa, but just to get some EQM, can I stay at airport area/lounge and catch the return flight back?

According to this site you don’t need a visa if you remain in international transit area of airport.

Hey Ric, love the new focus of your blog and the rate at which you’re turning out new content.
As you probably know, you can route these GRU/GIG fares pretty creatively. Certainly via JFK and MIA (I’m flying one of those in a couple weeks), but also probably via LAX for an extra 500 eqms. Stopovers were allowed on the last batch of fares; I presume they still are.
And keep in mind, there have been similar fares from Europe to Brazil on Oneworld, also MPM-based. You can route via the US of course, stop over, and get ~19K EQMs on one ticket.
Good luck qualifying, and I hope to meet you in an AA F cabin one day!
