DoubleTree Resort coming to Hilo in 2016

The Big Island will have a new DoubleTree resort coming to Hilo in 2016 after a $16 million renovation of the former Hilo Naniloa Hotel & Golf Club. The Naniloa property fell behind in its $500,000 per month land lease two years ago. The Hilo Naniloa Hotel was sold to Tower Development Inc. who are rebranding the hotel resort as a DoubleTree by Hilton.

The Hilo DoubleTree resort will have 325 rooms, conference and meeting facilities, a farm-to-table restaurant and Willie K’s at the Crown Room.

Hilton has three other properties around Waikoloa on the northwest side of Hawaii, including the Hilton Waikoloa Village. This will be the first DoubleTree on the Big Island on the northeast side of the island.

Even more importantly, it will be the first major chain hotel on the Hilo side. I expect they will end up in a high reward category as they will be the only option. And we’ll probably still burn points with them. 🙂
