Paddle in Seattle sHellNo Arctic Battle May 16-18

Paddle in Seattle is an environmental protest against Shell Oil. The Polar Pioneer oil rig arrives in Seattle today as the largest piece of equipment needed to begin Arctic oil exploration this summer in the Chukchi Sea.

The Obama administration last week gave approval to Shell for oil drilling in the Arctic Chukchi Sea. Shell states the fossil fuel resources of the Arctic amount to “400 billion barrels of oil equivalent, 10 times the total oil and gas produced in the North Sea to date.”
