A low fare at $749 in late summer to Athens, Greece flying Jet Airways, an Indian airline from Newark EWR to Brussels, Belgium and Brussels Airlines to Athens. There have been recent low-priced summer fares to Athens, Greece in the $700s from New York JFK, but the routes were Aeroflot and Ukraine Airlines requiring transiting via Moscow or Kiev.

Jet Airways is like Alaska Airlines with airline partners across alliances including United and American. Jet Airways operates flights between Toronto and Newark to Brussels and from there to India.
The fare drops to $729 for October departures, but you will find many of the Greek island resorts close in October for the winter season. That is what I learned for October 2014 when I considered going to the Travel Blog Exchange conference, then decided to go to Norway in September instead. Closed island resorts are not an issue if Athens is where you want to be. The weather will be cooler in October than September.
