British Airways was the good deal fare from California to South Africa this morning at $890 to $910 for November and December departures. After getting lost writing about the Borneo rainforest of Malaysia, I see that Delta and Skyteam have brought back their low $766 fares in the past couple hours for flights to Cape Town, South Africa via Amsterdam and Paris.
Today is a good day for South Africa fare purchases. Similar fares have appeared for SFO-CPT and LAX-CPT for 24 to 48 hours in limited sale periods in the past three weeks with both the $766 Delta fare and $$890 British Airways fare.
British Airways has the competitive advantage of earning 100% American Airlines AAdvantage miles on the 23,000 miles round trip flight route. Delta earns 5x the base fare and Flying Blue is 25% miles. Swiss is in the mix for Star Alliance flyers.
British Airways $904.66
San Francisco – London LHR – Johannesburg JNB South Africa – Cape Town CPT for 23,139 flight miles. That is sufficient redeemable AAdvantage miles for one way economy USA-Europe November to May. Return is one stop in London LHR.
British Airways ‘0’ economy booking class.
November 18 – November 25, 2015. These are not good dates to sample with only 5.5 days in November. I’d want at least ten days between air travel dates, if I am flying 22,000 miles round trip.
Delta/Skyteam Los Angeles – Cape Town, South Africa $766
The Delta Skyteam fares became far less abundant during the time I spent writing this post.
South Africa has been a hotspot for discount fares in the past month.
