IHG Share Forever summer promotion good for house hunters

IHG seemed to make a 180-turn from Fall 2014 Into the Nights to Summer 2015 Share Forever promotion. I stayed two nights at IHG airport hotels with Dublin Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn London Gatwick for $250 all-in for a trip in November 2014 and earned two free nights for use at any IHG hotel worldwide. I redeemed 2014 Into the Nights free reward nights for InterContinental Park Lane London for July 2015.

You will find the IHG Share Forever promotion in your account offers. Register to see your individual targeted member offer from IHG Rewards Club.

The basic deal with IHG Rewards Club Share Forever is stay 10 nights at any IHG hotel worldwide over your individual target and get 2 free nights. Most members will likely need between 13 and 20 IHG paid hotel nights to earn the two free nights, plus earn 15,000 to 30,000 bonus points. You can earn more points for an additional 10 nights and there is an entire sharing component to gift points and a free night to another IHG Rewards Club member.

I am simply looking at what the potential overall value is for this promotion and the type of traveler it benefits. In short, this summer offer is a good deal for frequent travelers needing a lot of hotel nights this summer or people who are changing residence or otherwise have an extended stay at hotels. You can earn the Share Forever maximum bonuses with one extended stay at an IHG hotel like a Candlewood Suites or Staybridge Suites residential style hotel.

Value of Free Nights in IHG Share Forever limited by geography and expiration date

My IHG Rewards Club Share Forever offer in Summer 2015 requires 14 nights in IHG hotels worldwide between May 1 and September 7 to earn 2 free nights + 18,000 bonus points. The IHG free night is limited for hotels in the Americas, including USA, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America and South America. Free night e-certificate expires June 30, 2016.

Loyalty Traveler –  IHG Rewards Club Share Forever promotion assessment (April 22, 2015)

Essentially, IHG Rewards Club Share Forever is like 118,000 bonus points if you use the free nights at a highest category 50,000 points per reward night hotel. The free nights have less equivalent reward value at lower category hotels, meaning two free nights might only be worth 50,000 points, if you redeem them for free nights at a 25,000 points hotel. Also, the free night expiration on June 30, 2016 means most of summer 2016 is not available for free nights you earn this summer. That can be less than 10 months free night validity, if you earn the free nights near the end of the promotion period.

Free nights might not have any value at all, if you don’t redeem them within one year before expiration. It is amazing how little value points and free nights and flights have when other life changes take precedence over your travel.

Hey, come on and open the coke. It is summertime. Think happy thoughts and free hotel nights.

Loyalty Traveler IHG Rewards Club Share Forever Promotion Analysis

$1,200 in hotel spend on 14 nights = 2 free nights and 40,000 points

In terms of the bonus feature of Share Forever, my offer gives a maximum equivalent value of 118,000 bonus points after 14 paid hotel nights.

14 nights is going to cost $1,000 in hotel spend, if I can find a $65 average room rate for 14 nights ($910) with low tax rate on top of that.

Let’s say the Share Forever promotion takes $1,200 all-in in hotel spend to increase the probability of finding hotel stays with $75 nightly rates for 14 nights and around a 14% hotel tax rate.

$1,200 for 118,000 points + an additional 10,000 to 20,000 points will be earned on the $1,050 for hotel stay spend.

There is a good probability that 40,000 total points can be earned from hotel stay regular points earned and the 18,000 Share Forever bonus points, after 14 nights in IHG hotels and $1,200 in spend by September 7.

That is $8.57 spent to earn 1,000 IHG Rewards Club points while staying in hotels 14 nights. That is a good deal, based on hotels averaging $75 per night.

This promotion would look good to me, if I needed an extended hotel stay. This could be done in two weeks at a Candlewood Suites where we could set up house. Might be a good time to get a remodel of the floor and kitchen and leave home for some time this summer.

Where are those $75 room nights?

Not around my part of California.

Kelley’s account offer even harder to achieve

Today I checked my wife’s IHG Rewards Club account to view her Share Rewards offer.

My base goal is 4 nights and hers is 7 nights. I need 14 nights for 2 free nights + 18,000 points. Kelley needs 17 nights for 2 free nights + 21,000 points.

I have IHG Rewards Club Platinum status. Kelley is a base member.
