JW Marriott Venice Resort and Spa soft opening March 25 introduces Marriott’s luxury hotel brand in Venice, Italy on its own private island, Isola delle Rose (Rose Island). The 250-room resort was designed by the architectural firm Matteo Thun & Partners to blend modern style with restored historic architecture, parklands and gardens on the island.
The resort is a 20-minute boat ride across the Lagoon to St. Mark’s Square by complimentary shuttle service. This sounds very similar to St. Regis Venice San Clemente Island opened last June, also located on a nearby private island to JW Marriott Venice in the Lagoon.
JW Marriott Venice resort has five distinct lodging areas with the 191 rooms in the main hotel and several other guest lodging areas.
La Residenza, (opening late April) offers 12 guest rooms designed in a fresh Mediterranean style, featuring parquet flooring in soft earthy tones that lead out to private gardens by the spa and lagoon.
L’Uliveto (opening late April) presents a rural garden setting with its 26 guest rooms and views over the ancient olive groves.
La Maisonette (opening late April) offers 20 split level suites all with private patios and gardens and some with pools overlooking the canal, olive groves and church.
La Villa Rose, an exclusive private retreat with two bedrooms set in a private garden with a pool.
Isola delle Rose is a 40-acre private island of where guests can discover numerous gardens and outdoor areas scattered with landscaped spots for quiet contemplation. Fruit arbours, olive groves and cultivated plots provide fresh ingredients for the property’s diverse food and drink offerings, including a cooking school and wine academy. Restored structures scattered around the island house a range of facilities including a picturesque events space in an original church. (Note: many articles, including the initial 2014 press release state the island is 16 acres (40 hectares).
The resort hotel features a rooftop pool with views of St. Mark’s Square, four restaurants and five bars. The 5,700 sq. ft. spa will open in May 2015 as the largest spa in Venice.
Press releases state room rates start at 395 EUR, yet rates are lower for stays in April, starting at just over 300 EUR per night.
