Autograph Collection Hawaii Hotel-Airline Loyalty Promotions 2015-Q1 Marriott Hotels Marriott International Marriott Rewards (replaced by Marriott Bonvoy)

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Hawaii is Marriott’s first Autograph Collection for islands

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Hawaii is an historic property celebrating 50 years in 2015.  Mauna Kea was the first resort built on the Big Island’s Kohala Coast by Laurance S. Rockefeller in 1965 with an architectural design planned to integrate the hotel into the natural environment. The hotel is now part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and enters Marriott Rewards as a category 7 hotel.

35,000 points per night or 140,000 points for 5 nights is a great redemption value considering the $400+ rates.

The hotel underwent a $150 million renovation and reopened in December 2008 just in time for the great recession. The property features a USGA standards golf course originally designed by Robert Trent Jones. There is also a tennis courts center.

The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel at $15 million construction cost in 1965 was the most expensive hotel ever built at the time. The hotel operated without televisions from 1965 to 1995. History of Mauna Kea.

The modern hotel has 252 guest rooms and sits above the white sand of Kauna‘oa Beach. The hotel features Rockefeller’s 1,600 piece museum-quality Pacific and Asian art collection originally displayed when the hotel opened in 1965.

I checked this special package rate offer for March 3-7 on a 4-night stay. The nightly rate after tax is $656.68 with breakfast, $300 resort credit for the stay and 4th night free adjusted at hotel at check-out.

Additional Information
  • Includes breakfast buffet and a one time 300.00 resort credit
  • Plus every 4th night is free. Free nights will be adjusted at checkout.
  • Blackout dates may apply.
  • Available for booking dates 1/4/15 – 3/31/15

Other hotel package rates I saw include breakfast and rental car, if you want a car for the trip.

$1,970.04 for four nights with breakfast and $300 resort credit. The same room category without breakfast and no resort credit is $1,928.08. The package is a good rate deal for a 4-night stay. 14-day cancellation policy or else one night payment charged.

Personally, I think Marriott Rewards points are the way to go at 35,000 points per night or 140,000 points for a 5-night stay to save $500 per night. That is great redemption value.

Our home hotel on the Big Island. Been there 4 times in the past 4 years. I can’t recommend this resort more.
