Blinked and I almost missed this Choice Privileges Tap Our App Double Points promotion running November 20 through December 17, 2014. Members must register for promotion, download and book a stay using Choice Hotels mobile app with a check-in date by December 17.
Tap Our App double points bonus limited to 30,000 bonus points, which equates to $3,000 in spend at most Choice Hotels brands.
Double points is a good deal at hotel brands earning 10 points per dollar. I use Norway and Sweden as my benchmark for the value of Choice Privileges points where a redemption value of $20 per 1,000 points is common.
Choice Hotels brands earning 10 points per dollar regularly and 20 points/$1 with mobile booking double points through December 17:
- Comfort Inn & Suites
- Quality Inn
- Clarion
- Ascend Collection (tend to be upscale boutique hotels)
- Sleep Inn
- Cambria Suites
Extended Stay and Economy Brands normally earn 5 points per dollar in Choice Privileges.
- MainStay Suites (extended stay/apartment style lodging)
- Suburban (extended stay/apartment style lodging)
- EconoLodge
- Rodeway Inn
Mobile booking double points promotion stays earn 10 points/$1.
Clarion Collection in Scandinavia are hotels that offer complimentary breakfast, afternoon pancakes and a light evening buffet included with the room rate and on reward stays.
Another good value of Choice Privileges points are the seasonal rates at 8,000 points for a variety of hotels in Europe. Until about a year ago, Paris and London had seasonal rates when many hotels dropped to 8,000 points per night. In 2014, there has been a significant drop off in hotels available at the seasonal rate of 8,000 points compared to the last several years when there were some months when around 30% to maybe 50% of hotels in Europe had low level points seasonal rates. I never did a formal analysis, but the availability of hotel reward nights for 8,000 points was commonplace.
$800 in hotel spend with Choice Hotels can earn 16,000 points with mobile app bookings over the next week. 16,000 points buys a $400 hotel room in Norway. That is the way I view the offer, but I’m too busy with IHG hotel stays for Into the Nights on Kelley’s account and I am looking at a nice oceanfront Best Western hotel in Pismo Beach, California that I can book for $70 and then there is a Hyatt free night to burn. December 2014 is booked up for my travels.
