Does it matter if there is a Hyatt Diamond Challenge?

There has been lots of handwringing over the end of Hyatt’s Diamond elite challenge as of October 31, 2014. Some bloggers claim we have only ourselves to blame.

Does it really matter if there is a Hyatt Diamond Challenge?

If you had not taken advantage of the Hyatt Diamond Challenge by now, and you wanted to, then you have learned a good-to-learn travel loyalty axiom:

Great value deals in loyalty programs always end. Take advantage of the great deals while they are around.

Hyatt Gold Passport’s Diamond Challenge was a steal for enrollees. Hyatt provided Diamond status up front before any stays and even offered members four suite upgrades to use while staying 12 nights within 60 days to maintain Diamond elite for the membership year.

More than a decade ago, I was able to show that I had earned Hilton Diamond elite from hotel stays when I first acquired complimentary Diamond elite membership with Hyatt Gold Passport. Those were the good old days of Hyatt Gold Passport in my mind.

Old-timers with Hyatt Gold Passport remember Faster Free Nights when every two stays at a Hyatt brand hotel earned one free night at any Hyatt worldwide. Those were the good old days of Hyatt Gold Passport in my mind.

And remember how lucrative Hyatt stays were when there were property ‘G’ bonuses for 1,000 or 2,000 bonus points every stay? Most hotels in the USA participated in these bonus points opportunities. Those were the good old days of Hyatt Gold Passport in my mind.

And remember how Hyatt certificates allowed members to pay as little as 50% or even less of the published hotel rate at top properties around the world? Those were the good old days of Hyatt Gold Passport in my mind.

The Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond Challenge is gone for now.

Here is a tip for how to still get Hyatt Gold Diamond elite membership without the Hyatt Diamond Challenge.

Book 25 stays or 50 nights at Hyatt Hotels in a calendar year.

If we are lucky, perhaps Hyatt Gold Passport will return the ‘Stays Count Double’ promotion in 2015. Loyalty Traveler – Hyatt’s Faster Free Nights, Stays Count Double, and United Miles (October 1, 2009).

Those were the good old days of Hyatt Gold Passport in my mind.
