Club Carlson has finally launched a Q4 global promotion. Club Carlson double points or double elite nights November 4 to December 30, 2014 begins today.

Club Carlson Double Points

Club Carlson double points is the best choice for any Club Carlson Visa card member, unless you can reach 75 nights for Club Carlson Concierge with double elite nights.

Double points is 40 points/$1 on hotel spend. Duuble points is applied only to 20 base points per dollar earned on Carlson hotel stays at Radisson Blu, Radisson, Quorvus, Park Plaza, Park Inn and Country Inns & Suites stays.

Elite member bonuses, 3,000 points online booking bonus and credit card bonus points are all added separately.

Club Carlson Visa card members can earn 57 points/$1 with this offer.

  • Double points = 40 points/$1
  • Club Carlson Visa payment for hotel stays = 10 points/$1
  • Club Carlson Gold elite bonus points = 7 points/$1

For example, I am staying in a Radisson Blu in Dublin, Ireland this month for about $150.

$150 x 57 points/$1 = 8,550 points. Free nights start at 9,000 points with Club Carlson. I recently redeemed 150,000 points for six nights in London at three Radisson and Park Plaza hotels for two night stays using the free night on award stays as a Club Carlson Visa member. Basically, double points means I can earn 25,000 points with around $450 in hotel spend. Those 25,000 points are worth about $300 per night in the London hotels where I am booked this month.

This double points promotion puts Club Carlson in my top three hotel chains for end-of-year 2014 stays and may push Carlson to my first choice after I complete IHG and Hyatt offers. Loyalty Traveler – Trip planning, booking and rechecking trip plans (Nov 4).

Double Elite Nights

Members without Club Carlson Visa card and Gold elite status may benefit more from double elite nights.

  • Club Carlson Silver earned with 15 nights or 10 stays in calendar year.
  • Club Carlson Gold earned with 35 nights or 20 stays in calendar year.
  • Club Carlson Concierge earned with 75 nights or 30 stays in calendar year.

Unfortunately, Club Carlson promotion terms do not mention anything about double qualifying stays. The terms only mention ‘nights’ are doubled. Stays or nights paid for by redeeming Gold Points or by using Points + Cash are not eligible for this Promotion.

Club Carlson Silver earns 15% bonus points, which is an extra 3 points/$1.

Club Carlson Gold earns 35% bonus points, which is an extra 7 points/$1.

The best benefit of Club Carlson Gold is access to 2-for-1 rates and 4-for-2 rates in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

U.S. members should probably register for double points and sign up for a Club Carlson Visa card for its automatic Gold elite benefit and one free night on all award stays of two or more nights. Those who can’t get the Club Carlson Visa card might want to consider double elite nights if that will allow you to reach Gold or Concierge elite.

Any member who can reach Concierge status at 75 nights with double elite nights will likely find that the most valuable option since this opens the door to free breakfast and upgrades on your 2015 hotel stays.

I have survived interminable domestic Country Inn & Suites breakfasts this year in service of reaching Concierge status (30 stays)…. looking forward to those free breakfasts and upgrades at the better London, Paris, Rome, and Madrid properties next year. Hope Club Carlson delivers!! (Actually, as a cc Visa cardholder, I find 2 night award stays at the higher rated Country Inn properties in the US are often an excellent non-aspirational value.)

@UAPhil – I live in the land of $200+ Country Inns & Suites of the Silicon Valley. I wish there were more Country Inn hotels in California. I rarely stay there since not too many around these parts and the ones here tend to be high priced filled with business travelers.

    Hi Ric!

Thanks for the great post. Do you know whether the double points promo would apply when booking a mega points nightly rate? For instance, this Sunday night at the Radisson Fisherman’s Wharf in SF there is a 10,000 mega points bonus, but I see two different nightly rate options, one for double points and one for the mega points bonus. If I’ve registered for the double points bonus, will I receive double points even if I choose the mega points nightly rate?

If so, there’s a great opportunity for some good points! I’m club carlson Visa card holder, so 57 points x $219 nightly rate = 12,483 + 3,000 point app bonus + 10,000 mega points bonus = 25,483 points. Am I missing anything here?

    Thanks!
